Many of my Idaho real estate clients have commented on how much they enjoy receiving my monthly postcard mailers with household tips & ideas. They are fun and interesting!
Salt has been used for many centuries.
Other than used as a seasoning,
here are a few practical ways to use salt.
1. Clean drains. Using 1/2 cup of salt per every quart of hot water,
pour the solution into the drain.
2. Remove red-wine stains from your clothes. Stretch the fabric over a
bowl, then cover the stain with salt, and then carefully pour boiling
water over it.
3. Remove dirt from leafy vegetables by washing them in salt water.
4. Prevent shells from cracking when boiling eggs by adding a few
pinches of salt to the water.
5. Prevent frost from forming inside car windows by rubbing the glass
with a solution of two teaspoons of salt in one gallon of hot water
and then wipe dry with a cloth.
6. Make eggs or cream whip up faster and higher by adding a pinch of
salt before beating.
7. Keep chicken or turkey moist by rubbing salt in the cavity of the
bird before cooking.
8. Clean residue from an iron. Slide a hot iron (don’t use steam) over a
piece of paper sprinkled with salt.
9. De-ice sidewalks by substituting regular salt for rock salt.
10. Chill a bottle of champagne — by placing ice around the base of the
bottle in an ice bucket. Sprinkle in a few tablespoons of salt. Layer
the salt and ice until they reach the neck of the bottle and then fill
the ice bucket with water. Wait 10-12 minutes and then serve.
